Country: KazakhstanDescription of the Assignment: National Consultant on Waste ManagementPeriod of assignment: July 2025 June 2026 (maximum 40 working days)Place of Work: Home-based in Kazakhstan, with travels to project sites Contract type: Individual Contract PROJECT DESCRIPTIONThe project aims to improve the management of the land-based sources of pollution that are likely to affect the marine environment of the Caspian Sea. This will be achieved through a comprehensive data collection and analysis by all the Caspian Sea countries on main sources, pathways and hotspots of marine litter subsequent amendments of the policy and regulatory frameworks on waste management, active promotion of a circular economy/life-cycle approach, carrying out investments in waste management as well as strengthening sustainable consumption and production patterns, including changing behavioural consumer, ranging from one-off behaviours, e.g. purchasing reusable cups, to habitual behaviours, e.g. reusing items such as shopping bags. Marine litter is a transboundary, national and regional problem that needs to be addressed. Therefore, the project will have both regional and national activities.The project will also consolidate efforts with already in place actions of the Caspian littoral countries towards better waste management.
