Country: KazakhstanDescription of the Assignment: National Biodiversity Planning Consultant to update the Concept for the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Biodiversity for 2025-2035 and to develop the 7th National Report Period of assignment: 140 working days (tentatively April 2025 - May 2026)Place of Work: Home-basedContract type: Individual Contract PROJECT DESCRIPTIONFollowing the adoption of the Kunming - Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), each of the 196 Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) must ensure that their national biodiversity strategies and action plans (NBSAPs) are aligned with the GBF. Kazakhstan has also begun this necessary first step to translate the GBF into national actions that will lead to the achievement of the stated 4 global goals and 23 targets.Countries party to the CBD, the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing have recognized capacity development as key to the effective implementation of the GBF. Thus, the Conference of the Parties, in decision 15/8, adopted a long-term capacity development strategy1 that takes into account national priorities, the needs of target groupsand the importance of partnerships.
